Many of our regional search engine placement clients ask us if we can get them to the top of the Google local results. While Google local is still in its infancy (and we are still testing Google local optimization techniques) there are a few methods that help:
#1: Find and acquire one way text links on regional sites and directories. For example, if you are located in Asheville NC. You want to get links from the Asheville Chamber Of Commerce, local newspaper sites, classifieds, and even small businesses. (Many of these businesses will link to your site if you sign up for a membership or pay a nominal fee)
#2: Make sure you include your exact address on your web-site. Some people choose to keep it on their contact us page or on their entire web-site in a site-wide footer.

These directories usually list a multitude of regional companies in exchange for a small fee or advertising.
You’d be amazed at the amount of searches made for local services and products on any given day.
