Well it’s official! Internet marketing techniques have been rapidly increasing in popularity for web-marketers and paid search marketing, social media marketing, blogs and email marketing are becoming the advertising wave of the future. According to Forbes business and finance magazine, this week marked the official start of the Internet surpassing major printed news publications as the “King” of advertising.
Forbes reports that online advertising revenues will reach more than $25.8 billion dollars -- a 13.9% increase from 2009 -- surpassing print ad revenue by about $3 billion. As modern technology and Internet advertising are raking in the dough -- and favorable results -- the revenue generated by newspaper print ads has dropped by 8.2%. Future projections indicate that Internet ad spending will exceed $40 billion per year by 2014.
Why is online ad spending increasing?
The most obvious answer is because the Internet has become a staple source of information, communication and convenience for consumers. Below the surface, the power or search engine placement and paid search marketing are making more ecommerce options available to consumers on an “in your face” level. Google Instant even tells you what to search.
From the advertiser’s point of view, online advertising is not only much more cost effective, tracking your conversions rates through online ads is far easier than measuring the success of a printed newspaper ad. Even creative writers are cashing in on the evolution of technology and paid search marketing using tablet computers -- laptops, netbooks, etc.-- and incorporating SEO into their content to attract search engine attention and generate ad revenue right on their own personal blogs and journals.
Simply put …
Everyone uses the Internet, and pretty much every news publication can be found there. In addition to the perks of conveniently tracking your conversion success through online advertising, you won’t miss out on any breaking news as it makes it to the Internet in far less time than printing a special edition. With the advent of PDAs, iPhones, laptops, and netbooks, reading the “paper” on your work commute has become digital as well.
So between paid search marketing, search engine placement and Internet news sources, what do you need a newspaper for? Well, you can always wash your windows or train your dog.
